Lafayette Music Awards

Awards shows tend to be void of good solid content and in favor of overblown productions that do more to turn stomachs than to turn heads. Besides, when was the last time you saw an awards show that actually had any relevance to the genre that they pretend to represent?

   Why bother? I’m glad I asked.

   Somehow, if you’re reading this, you probably call Lafayette home. In which case, you are privileged to be right smack in the middle of an unquestionably vibrant music scene. Guns N’ Roses,  (tell me that you’ve never broken out spontaneously into Welcome to the Jungle?), Michael Kelsey (who, coincidently, resides in Lafayette), Zachariah Nagy (Joan Jett’s guitar tech, duh!), Blind Melon (who hasn’t jammed out to Shannon Hoon?), lets not forget our 2008 American Idol contestants (3 made it to Hollywood, 1 made it to the top 12!), and of course,  the dance crew on wheels - BrakeSK8 (ok so they aren't music- but they sure can break it down to some music!) bands, groups, and solo artist of national acclaim, importance and  broad geners are perfecting their crafts right within our earshot.

   Thus, Lafayette Music Award folks have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that it’s about damn time that we recognize the fact that we live in a town that rocks, rolls, hips & hops.  So, with no further ado, we would like to announce the First  Lafayette Music Awards.

   Mark your calendar! THE EVENT IS OCTOBER 25, 2008 and we will be giving out the awards that youm the devoted local supporters choose.  Check out the NOMINEES.  VOTE.  If you haven't had the chance to see the bands, go check 'em out, what are you waint for? And please, do us all a afavor and do not just vot for the one that you seen at teh bar last week, ot that your friend is in, or seen on a flyer somewhere....VOTE BASED ON TALENT, after all it is an awards event.  For the people, by the people.
